Ways to Beat the Peak
When you receive a Beat the Peak alert from Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative, there are a number of simple actions you can take to reduce your electricity usage. Here are a few ideas.
- Reduce usage of your heating or air conditioning system. During a cold weather peak period, try turning your thermostat down to 65 degrees or cooler. During a warm weather peak period try turning your thermostat to 75 degrees or warmer.
- Turn off all unnecessary lights. Not only will this reduce electricity demand, during the summer it may reduce an additional source of heat.
- Try to delay use of appliances. Wait until the peak period passes to run the dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, stove or oven.
- Have SVEC install a free water heater load management switch that will automatically come on during peak periods.
Do not limit yourself to just these ideas. Anything you do that reduces your use of electricity during these periods helps Beat the Peak. Sign up today to help keep costs down for you and all cooperative members.
